Do you and your family do little Christmas traditions like Advent Calendars or putting shoes out the first week of December to get candy from Santa’s Elves? We love doing these traditions with our kids.
This year instead of just buying advent calendars for the kids, I decided to DIY one! It was super inexpensive and easy! We love easy around here! With two littles and two dogs it’s hard to find the time to do anything so I was excited to do this. Holiday Season in general is so busy for everyone so you can DIY your own advent calendar in just 20 minutes!
You can even get all the products for about $20. Some I had laying around from previous projects and others I grabbed for just a few dollars at Walmart!
The best part about this is you can totally add your own spark to it! Do whatever you want as far as bags, lights, topper, etc. (I even just used Halloween candy to fill the bags so I didn’t need to buy any, lord knows we don’t need anymore candy around here)
Paper Bags or Plastic Bags (I couldn’t find the mini brown bag like I wanted so i found some really cute plaid bags at walmart for $2) These Christmas ones are cute.
Cricut Maker (optional) Can use a sharpie instead of cricut to make the countdown
Candy
Tacs (I used tacs cause I didn’t have anything else. Clear ones so you can’t tell)
How to make
First you wanna start by lining everything up on the wall to see exactly how you want it. You want to give each line enough space to hang the bags. I did it so you can’t really see the lines where the bags are hanging so it looks like a christmas tree.
Cut eat piece of twine a little shorter as you go up to get that christmas tree look.
Tac them on the wall how you want them, again make sure you have enough space to hang the bags.
Wrap twinkle lights around the outside only (you won’t see the inside much so don’t waste your time on that)
You can cut out a star as a topper or I used a cute little sign that I already had around the house.
Once I had my outline of the tree and twinkle lights wrapped around I went to my Cricut Maker and got some green cardstock since my bag we’re black and white.
I got my numbers all ready and then my maker drew them for me!
I cut them out and glued them on the bag but they ended up falling out cause all I had was a glue stick from my daughters backpack(lol) I ended up taping them so you couldn’t tell either way.
Fill up the bags with candy and then use the clothespins to hang them up.
Done! My kids even did it with me and had so much fun doing it! It’s not perfect and it wasn’t what I had in mind but it’s a new tradition and it was so much fun!
That’s it! Once it’s all on the wall you can play around with it and make it perfect. Me and my kids had so much fun doing this and I hope you do also! I love adding a special touch to Christmas and creating traditions with my kids.
