First thing, narrow it down to a niche or two. Motherhood, lifestyle, foodie, fashion, etc. You don’t want it to be all over the place. I post motherhood, lifestyle, some decor & food. Although I love fashion and other things I don’t tend to post it because it’s not what most of my life is. It’s not what most of my followers followed me for. So I stuck to what I posted the most. (You can always make multiple IG accounts if you’d like to post a variety)
When starting out, you will more than likely have to reach out yourself, get your name out there. Brands won’t know you are an influencer/content creator until you start posting products, they want to see what you can do, what kind of photos you take, etc. Reach out for a few months, you will be turned down. Don’t get discouraged. I’ve been turned down a few times and it’s okay. Sometimes they will email you back months later wanting to work together. Once you’ve got a few partnerships in the books, get on some platforms (make sure to subscribe because I’m sharing another blog of all my favorite platforms and how they work)
I often hear “well I can’t because I don’t have a good camera” not true at all. I didn’t buy my camera until I was well into my influencing job. Almost two years in and then i bought one. Yes, I love it. Yes, it does make a little difference but honestly a phone is just as amazing and to be honest sometimes I prefer my phone over my camera. Just depending on what I’m shooting for. Start with your phone, start taking photos, practice, go on Pinterest, get inspiration.
If you use a lot of brands in your everyday life (which you do) then tag them when posting something! If you’re already using it you mine as well tag them and a lot of the time (if they see other collaborations, takes you back to reaching out) they will email for a collaboration or email you to send you products no strings attached. It’s a great way to get that brands attention and when they email you, you can easily turn that into a collaboration.
ALWAYS CHARGE. I don’t care if you have 4,000 followers. Always charge. This is your time, energy, and creativity going into this. You are putting yourself out there by posting these brands and bringing awareness to them. Lots of brands will say “If this collaboration works out, we’ll definitely consider you for paid partnerships in the future”
NO! Absolutely not. You are not a sale person, you are not guaranteeing them sales. You are basically a billboard but on social media. You are bringing awareness to the brand. It could be a year from now that someone remembers YOUR post and says “oh I think I’ll try this”
Xoxo until next time, Cheyenne.
