Adult Minimalist Christmas Gift Guide.

Spread the love

So as I get older, I realize what a minimalist I really am. I declutter every month it feels like. Clutter makes me anxious. It doesn’t help I have a small house. I also like a clean, simple look (the holidays I go a little overboard with decor because my kids love it and who am I kidding? I do also)

One thing is for certain, I DISLIKE clutter and I don’t like getting gifts that wont really be used. The thought is so sweet but if you’ll never use it what’s the point? SO, I’ve put together a blog to help you shop for that minimalist in your life. We’re actually pretty simple people, you’d think shopping for a minimalists would be hard but it’s really not! Let’s get to it!

What To Get The Adult Minimalist In Your Life.

At the bottom of this list I’ll include what NOT to get them.

Before you start shopping for them make sure to do these two things below.

  1. Make sure you ask them what they want. That gives you an idea so you don’t have to just wing it.
  2. If whatever you get can be returned then get a gift receipt and include it with the gift. It’s better to let them exchange it for what they want than to just donate it.

Now to the things I’d recommend you consider for your minimalist family and friends.

A Gift Card

If you’ve asked or don’t want them to know your gifting them. Then go with a gift card. If you know they have a favorite store or restaurant you can always gift that but I always gift visa gift cards if I don’t know what they like. You can never go wrong with a Visa card. They can do what they want where they want and you know they’ll spend it on something they really want!

An Experience

You can never go wrong with gifting an experience to someone. Whether it’s a coffee or whole event. You can’t really gift anything better than memories. Even as adults we love experiences. Especially when we have children to include in it!

Food, Treats, etc.

Who doesn’t love food! You can find all kinds of cute edible gifts to make on Pinterest. You can even do edible arrangements which we love gifting to grandma! She’ll never spend money on something like that but she loves it!

You could even turn this into an experience and get the ingredients to make something and make it together.

Plants

If you’ve followed me for awhile you know i love plants and I love gifting plants. Whether you like real or fake plants, they are the perfect gift to give. Something that needs minimal care works well, especially for those who don’t really have a lot of plants. If you’d prefer to gift fake one, amazon has tons of them or even stores like walmart, target, etc.

A Memorable DIY Craft.

I think those homemade gifts mean so much to anyone. Especially a minimalist because it’s something that will stay forever and mean so much. Just like a handwritten card if much more special than one you can buy at the store. DIY crafts can be ornaments, shirts, a hat, anything really.

So like I mentioned above there are some things you should definitely not buy your minimalist friends or family members. These items are for sure to end up in the trash or donation bin. Which no one wants that.

Body Lotions Or Sprays

We’ve all got them before and probably never even used them. Unless your like a tween. But honestly the chemicals in those box kits are crazy. Just don’t do it. And stick to the gift card route.

Boxed Candy

I’m specifically talking about the those mixed boxes of chocolates that everyone loves to gift. I don’t think they every really get ate. Not only that but this is one of the first things people think to gift. So they end up with a ton that ends up in the trash

Clothes

I’d probably steer clear of gifting anyone on a minimalist journey clothes. Unless they specifically ask for it. Or you know their style. Most minimalists have worked hard to only own what they like and that includes clothes. Us minimalist go through our closets often and downsize so you don’t want it to be something that ends up being put in a donation box.

Randoms

I actually had to tell my family this a couple times. Once you get into a home of your own everyone wants to buy you knick knacks or frames or something that goes on a shelf. I’m not sure why…. but they do. Me, I’m into very boho decor. I end up donating a lot of decor because we get gifted tons that just sit around and I never use. So this i something you definitely shouldn’t gift to any minimalist.

& that’s it! This helps you get an idea of what to get your minimalist family/friends. Even not being a minimalist this is a great starter list for those people you just aren’t sure what to gift. All of these items are great for anyone, not just minimalist. Check out my other blog HERE on what to get the kiddos for a minimalist Christmas!
