January 1, 2023
Spread the love
So it’s a brand new year already right? I can’t believe we’re in 2023! 2022 was a year I’ll never forget, no doubt about that. I always love starting the new year with decluttering my entire house. It makes me less anxious and plus I know I’ll be buying/getting new things throughout the year so I love decluttering my house to prepare for that. Especially with christmas just passing, it gets cluttered fast. It only makes sense to get rid of the clutter, the mess, the trash.
Down below you’ll find a few links to some cute baskets, organization things. Make sure to check them out! *I do make commission which I really appreciate if you click my link to order!
Below i’ll share things you should start to declutter and then I’ll share a plan so you don’t get overwhelmed decluttering. I always like to plan so I know exactly what I’m doing, ill also include a free printable to make it easier on you!
So first things first, these are the most important things to start with decluttering. I will organize by room!
Kitchen
Junk drawers, go through and organize it. Grab some organization items on amazon or from a store near you. Makes this a lot easier.
Mismatched silverware (no idea how i get so many random spoons and forks in my drawers)
Old Tupperware, anything that is stained, no lids, old looking. Get rid of it!
Cups that don’t get used, mugs, random cups, bottles, etc.
Pots and pans. I love decluttering my pots and pans. Ones you barely use, old, rusty, etc.
Under the sink, anything that isn’t being used, donate it or put it in the garage if you plan to use it eventually.
Pantry, I tend to go through my pantry every few months, just making sure I don’t have anything that’s bad or expired in there. If it’s still good but you no longer eat it or your kids made you buy it and didn’t eat it, donate it!
Fridge. Take everything out, wipe it all down, clean and organize it. You can get get some great organization bins, etc on amazon or even at target, Walmart. Make sure to check dates on everything as you do this and get rid of anything that’s old/expired.
Any decor you might have that’s hanging around, etc.
Clean all your air fryers, deep fryers, instant pots, etc. Get rid of what you don’t use. You won’t miss it if you don’t ever use it. Don’t be a hoarder!
Medicine cabinet. Anything old, expired, empty boxes, etc.
Spice cabinet. Old, expired, almost empty, etc.
Do this with anything else you might have in your kitchen. You will feel so refreshed once you’ve finished!
Bedrooms
This goes for any and all bedrooms. Use this same list!
Pillows/blankets. Old pillows, old blankets, just get rid of them. I tend to always hoard blankets for some reason and never use them. So I decluttered and donated some to the homeless!
Clothes! This one is huge. I have this rule if i haven’t worn it in 6 months, it’s got to go. I do this when i bring out my winter clothes or my summer clothes. It makes a huge difference and makes it easier for me when getting ready for the day!
Underwear, socks, bralettes, pajamas! I always get rid of anything old, worn out, etc.
Get the clutter under control, make a pile of any extra things and go through it. Organize it, make a pile to get rid of and slowly add to that to make it a little easier!
Shoes! Get rid of shoes you haven’t worn, old shoes, worn shoes.
*kids rooms, organize toys, get rid of anything that is missing pieces, they havent played with in awhile, etc.
Baskets are always a must, baskets for blankets, shoes, anything really! Cute, minimal and clutter free!
Living room
Old decor
Misc things that just sit around
Blankets, pillows.
Toys (if you have toys in there)
Water and clean those plants!
Move couch and look for things under there!
Toy room | Clear out old toys, organize toys, donate whatever they don’t play with, things that don’t have all the pieces, etc.
Desk Area
Put things back where they go.
Loose paper, old newspaper, ads, coupons that expired.
Misc things that just got piled on.
Clean off and wipe down. Simplify it.
Take a drawer and organize everything so you have less clutter on top.
My desk is pretty minimal as it is, take the tips above and do that with your desk if it’s more clutter!
Laundry Room
Get canisters to organize your pods or anything you use for laundry (everyone is different when it comes to this so just your preference)
Wipe down washer/dryer
Throw away any random trash, empty boxes, etc you have laying around. Clutter free makes laundry not so miserable!
Bathrooms
Start with shower, take everything out, wipe down, check bottles, if you have new ones already, put old bottles with new and reduce the clutter.
Clean toilet and organize next to it.
Under sink, organize, get rid of anything not used. Put cleaners together, bath bombs, etc.
Reduce clutter by sink by putting things that aren’t used multiple times a day under the sink as well.
Put toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash in mirror cabinet.
Brushes, sprays, makeup, hair tools, under sink. You only need soap and q-tips by sink. You can even put the a-tips under sink as well. Less clutter = happy
Donate anything not used. Throw away anything old, not used, almost empty.
Linen closets
Old towels, old wash rags, take out fold, donate, throw away.
Cleaning supplies, organize by room.
Sweep out, dust, fold.
These are just the basic rooms in the house. Always when Decluttering if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it. If you are more looking to organize, baskets is the way to go. You can find them anywhere and it makes the space look so much simpler, vs a busy mess. Throw away, donate, whatever your heart desires. Start the new year right and get rid of the junk, clutter, mess. It always helps me go into the new year knowing my house isn’t a cluttered mess.
