When I became a mom at just 17, I was alone. I had my now husband and thankfully his grandma. That was it, my parents weren’t involved and the rest of my family lived thousands of miles away. It was hard. I was depressed most of my pregnancy and even after I had her. A time that should have been my happiest wasn’t.
It broke my heart. I had some friends but they didn’t understand because they weren’t parents yet.
I found social media. A place where I felt comfortable. A place where I knew I could go if I needed help. I had met so many amazing friends through social media and I knew I’d forever have a place to go. I actually made a mom group (Misfits with minis) I knew I wasn’t alone in my struggle.
I know I had my village. Some days were definitely more difficult than others but when say say “it takes a village” it really does.
You need someone to tell you, it’s going to be okay. You’re doing an amazing job. That kid/s love you. That everything works out even though it may not feel like it. I’ve never been more thankful for this community. This tribe I have found that uplift me and empower me. This tribe that reminds me i’m doing a good job and i’m doing my best. It’s okay to fall apart sometimes but just remember you do have a tribe. You have your village.
This week on Untold Stories Of Motherhood. We’re all sharing about how we feel. Our village, our tribe. Make sure to check out each of these amazing ladies to see what they wrote!
